Teacher Attendance At Special Education Meeting When A Student Is Classified

It is required that the pupil’s teacher attend the Committee on Special Education meeting when a child is first classified as disabled. This reference means the classroom teacher where the child is assigned and who has most likely generated the CSE 1 referral. Past district policy requires the building principal also to be in attendance.

Likewise, when a disabled student is scheduled to be declassified, his/her special education teacher must be in attendance.
