Non-Disabled Students Being Served by Special Education Teachers

Special education teachers are employed to provide services to disabled students. In some instances there are cases when non-disabled students can be served by a special education teacher without creating any interruption or decrease in the delivery of services to disabled students.

No special education teacher is allowed to provide services to any non-disabled child unless there is written directive by the building principal and special education director. Each case involving a non-disabled student being provided services by a special education teacher must be handled separately.

It is the responsibility of the special education teacher to inform the parent that disabled students have first priority in receiving these services and that there could therefore be scheduled changes involving their child’s services.
