Dear Hornet families and colleagues:

A Plattsburgh City School District student has tested positive for COVID-19 and is isolated. The student has been a remote-learner for the past several weeks, and initial contact tracing efforts by the Clinton County Health Department have identified no known contact with other students within the district. As the student has not been on-site or to any sporting events in over 2 weeks, CCHD is not requesting any additional assistance with contact tracing from the district at this time.

No change to school operations are contemplated.

As is outlined in the district’s reopening plan, the district will consult with the CCHD (who may also consult with the NYSDOH) in the event of any confirmed case. The CCHD was very responsive, and we continue to appreciate their advice.

In accordance with NYSDOH protocol, anyone who tests positive for COVID-19 must test negative before returning to any on-school activity.

Some of our recent communications have outlined the evolving rules for student/staff exclusion from/return to school. These, understandably, can be inconvenient and frustrating. However, this current situation (wherein there was no actionable contact/exposure) does illustrate the effective of these exclusion measures.

Because we are a caring, supportive community, I already know that I will receive numerous inquiries about the impacted student’s well-being, so I will share that he/she is reported as being generally well, is at home, is recuperating, and enjoys great support from his/her family and school personnel.

As always, practicing best hygiene and following distancing and masking protocols (some of which are understandably frustrating) remain paramount. Thank-you for your continued understanding about why symptomatic students and staff must be excluded from attendance.
