Guidelines / Tips for completing Scholarship Applications

Step 1 Begin searching online for scholarships that might be of interest to you. You can look on national scholarship databases as well as our local scholarship database (on our website).

Step 2 Determine if you meet the eligibility guidelines for the scholarship. If so, begin accessing the scholarship details.

Step 3 Print the application and carefully complete all sections of the application. Do not leave any questions unanswered.  If the question is not applicable to you then simply write n/a.

Step 4 Pay close attention to eligibility criteria, deadlines and mailing instructions and make sure that you have completed all components of the application on time.

Step 5 Go to the guidance office to obtain documents, transcript, and letters of recommendation needed to complete the application.

Step 6 If you would like the letter of recommendation tailored to meet the guidelines of the scholarship you will need to contact the teacher and make that request. You will want to do so at least 2 weeks prior to the deadline to give the teacher enough notice.

Step 7 Mail your application by the deadline date.
There can be two types of deadlines, postmarked by or received by.  When in doubt error on the side of caution and mail your application early.
